This year, our program has grown to its largest numbers ever, with over 100 fellows supporting CDC in the U.S. and around the world. Since the start of 2022, the program has welcomed 40 new fellows, who were onboarded and oriented in an accelerated off-cycle recruitment timeline. New fellows are supporting CDC in Atlanta, Georgia.

Global Health Security Fellows

Ten of the 40 new fellows are in a new fellowship track focused on global health security within CDC’s Center for Global Health. They began their fellowship in January 2022.  GHS fellows hold either an MPH, MSPH or PhD in public health from a CEPH accredited school.

Off-Cycle Fellows

Thirty of the 40 new fellows are in tracks which include epidemiology, surveillance, monitoring and evaluation, and program management, within various CDC Centers (including but not limited to CDC’s Center for Global Health). Off-Cycle fellows hold a master’s degree or doctorate in a field related to public health, from universities including Morehouse School of Medicine, Jackson State University, Charles R. Drew University, Loma Linda University and more. Prioritized applicants came from Minority-Serving Institutions, with the goal of diversifying the fellowship.

Due to the accelerated timeline, the program oriented both cohorts virtually. As part of their professional development, all new fellows are participating in an equity-centered systems leadership program created and facilitated by DSIL Global.

We look forward to the remainder of the year ahead, supporting our new fellows and partnering with CDC mentors, to help train and empower the next generation of global health professionals.
